The Story of Us
In the broadest sense, The Story of Us is an ongoing exploration of the human condition and its conflicts as interpreted through self-portraiture. Focusing on the various, often conflicting, stories we tell ourselves about ourselves, my figure is isolated and stripped of adornment and environment to focus on how a pose may illustrate connections between two or more of these seemingly different ideas. I use titles that straddle these ideas and guide viewers toward those I find most compelling. The series title is itself a knowing contradiction, as I engage broad ideas of our humanity through my own form and singular, and thus skewed, perspective. The duality of this self-important and self-affirming exploration is itself a critique.
